Manu Bhaker Shines in Women’s 10m Air Pistol, Secures Spot in Final

Paris Olympics 2024: Indian shooter Manu Bhaker secured a spot in the final of the women’s 10m Air Pistol event. Her journey to the final was marked by skill and determination, culminating in a solid performance.

On Saturday, ace Indian shooter Manu Bhaker earned a spot in the final of the women’s 10m Air Pistol event by finishing third in the qualifying round with an impressive total score of 580-27x.

Demonstrating remarkable consistency, Bhaker achieved 27 inner tens (27x) and maintained her strong performance throughout the 45-competitor field. In her first 10-shot series, she scored 97/100, with seven inner tens, and she repeated this score in the second series.

At the midpoint of the six-series competition, Bhaker had accumulated a score of 292/300, positioning her favorably for a top-eight finish to qualify for the finals. Bhaker had earlier secured an Olympic quota for India by finishing fifth in the women’s 25m pistol event at the 2023 Asian Shooting Championships.

The 22-year-old is the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at an ISSF World Cup and is also a Commonwealth Games champion, having set a CWG record in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the Gold Coast 2018.

Three years after the disappointment at the Tokyo Olympics, Bhaker has made a remarkable comeback by securing a place in the Paris Olympics final. This achievement is significant for the young shooter, who had once contemplated leaving the sport.

Bhaker’s journey to the final was marked by skill and determination, culminating in a solid performance. Her final series ended with a score of 96, bringing her overall total to 580-27x. She consistently scored 97, 97, 98, 96, and 96 in her previous rounds.

Meanwhile, Rhythm Sangwan, another promising talent, concluded her efforts with a score of 573-14x, placing her 15th overall. Despite not making it to the final, Sangwan’s performance was commendable, highlighting her potential.

The day began with some setbacks for the Indian team, but Manu Bhaker‘s stellar performance reignited hopes for a medal in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event. Her qualification for the final brings renewed optimism and excitement as fans anticipate her next performance.

Earlier in the day, Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema showed promise but did not advance to the men’s 10m air pistol final. Sarabjot finished ninth with a score of 577 in the qualifications, while Arjun placed 18th with 574.

The Indian shooters also fell short in the 10m air rifle mixed team qualifications, with Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta finishing sixth with a total score of 628.7, and Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh placing 12th with 626.3. Ramita and Babuta came close to the medal round, ranking fifth with three shots remaining, but ultimately fell 1.0 points short.
