Texas TV and Tejano music icon Johnny Canales has passed away at the age of 77, his wife, Nora Canales, shared in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Nora Canales announced the news of her husband’s passing on their official joint Facebook page, expressing profound sorrow.

“Johnny was not just a cherished husband, father, TV host, musician, and entertainer; he was a beacon of hope and joy for countless individuals,” she stated. “His magnetic personality and unwavering dedication to promoting Latino music and culture left an indelible mark on the world.”

Johnny Canales gained fame as the host of “The Johnny Canales Show.” The legendary Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez made her debut on the show in 1986, with her band Selena y Los Dinos frequently appearing in subsequent years.

“Johnny’s legacy will live on in the numerous lives he touched,” the statement continued.

Nora Canales expressed her gratitude to their fans and supporters for their “kind words, love, and support during this challenging period.”

“Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. Celebrate his memory with the joy and passion he brought into our lives, not with sorrow,” she wrote.

“The Johnny Canales Show,” a beloved syndicated variety show, started in 1983. It showcased both emerging and established musical acts from the United States, Mexico, and Central and South America, reaching audiences in 23 countries at its peak.

Although the original show ended in 2005, according to the Corpus Christi Caller Times, Johnny and Nora revived it in 2013 as “El nuevo Show de Johnny y Nora Canales.” The couple continued to engage with fans on social media.
