Ramoji Rao, Founder of Ramoji Film City and Head of ETV Network, Passes Away at 87

Born on November 16, 1936, Ramoji Rao was a businessman, media entrepreneur, and film producer. He dies at the age of 87.

Ramoji Rao, the prominent head of the ETV Network and founder of Ramoji Film City, passed away while receiving treatment in Hyderabad on June 8 at the age of 87. He died at 3:45 am.

Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on the demise of Eenadu and Ramoji Film City founder Ramoji Rao.

In his tweet, Modi stated, “The passing away of Ramoji Rao Garu is extremely saddening. He was a visionary who revolutionized Indian media. His rich contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the world of films. Through his noteworthy efforts, he set new standards for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment world…”

The Telangana government has decided to conduct the last rites of media mogul and Eenadu Group Chairman CH Ramoji Rao with state honors.

“Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, currently in New Delhi for the CWC meeting, has instructed the State Chief Secretary. The Chief Minister issued orders through the Chief Secretary to the Rangareddy Collector and the Cyberabad Commissioner to oversee the arrangements for the state honors,” stated the Telangana CMO, according to ANI.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also mourned Rao’s death, noting that he leaves behind a significant legacy in the Telugu-speaking world. “Shri Ramoji Rao garu is no more. He made a remarkable contribution in the field of journalism. Founder of the popular Eenadu newspaper and Film City in Hyderabad, he leaves a legacy behind in the Telugu-speaking world. Condolences,” she posted on X (formerly Twitter).

BJP leader G Kishan Reddy praised Rao’s contributions to Telugu media and journalism as “commendable.” “Saddened by the passing of Shri Ramoji Rao garu. His remarkable contributions to Telugu media and journalism are commendable. My deepest condolences to his family members,” Reddy posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Rao was hospitalized on June 5 after experiencing high blood pressure and breathlessness. Preparations are underway to transport his mortal remains to his residence in Ramoji Film City, where family, friends, and well-wishers will pay their final respects.
