Previously, Lauren Boebert won her seat in the 3rd District by a slim margin of 546 votes and faced a potential rematch with Democrat Adam Frisch.
Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., secured victory in her GOP primary on Tuesday after opting to run in a different district than the one where she narrowly won re-election in 2022.
Boebert triumphed over five other Republicans for the party’s nomination in Colorado’s 4th District, which became available after Rep. Ken Buck announced his resignation. The district’s conservative leaning makes Boebert a strong favorite for the general election.

Previously, Boebert won her seat in the 3rd District by a slim margin of 546 votes and faced a potential rematch with Democrat Adam Frisch. Former President Donald Trump had a significant lead in the 4th District with 19 points compared to an 8-point lead in the 3rd District in 2020.
With Trump’s endorsement, Boebert gained national attention as a conservative firebrand, having unseated then-Rep. Scott Tipton in the 2020 GOP primary. She built her campaign on opposing high-profile liberals like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
Announcing her decision to run in the 4th District in December, Boebert stated, “I promised I would do whatever it takes to stop the socialists and communists from taking over our country.” She emphasized the importance of staying in the fight and not allowing outside influences to control the 3rd District. Boebert also described the move as a “fresh start” following personal challenges, including her divorce and a temporary restraining order against her ex-husband.
Boebert’s shift to the 4th District reshaped the GOP primary in the competitive 3rd District, where Frisch, a former Aspen City Council member, secured the Democratic nomination. Attorney Jeff Hurd won the GOP primary to face Frisch in the general election, overcoming a Democratic attempt to influence the outcome by promoting a more controversial opponent, Ron Hanks.
In Colorado’s deep-red 5th District, political consultant Jeff Cranks, supported by House Speaker Mike Johnson, won the GOP primary, defeating state GOP Chairman Dave Williams, who had Trump’s endorsement.

Boebert chose not to participate in the special election to complete Buck’s term, opting to continue her role in the 3rd District. Republican George Lopez won the special election and will serve the remainder of Buck’s term, bolstering the Republican majority in the House. Lopez, a former SBA state director and mayor of Parker, has previously run for governor and holds staunch conservative views, including doubts about the 2020 election results and a strict anti-abortion stance.
Additionally, Tuesday’s primaries set up a highly competitive race in Colorado’s 8th District. State Rep. Gabe Evans, the top GOP fundraiser with Trump’s endorsement, will challenge Democratic Rep. Yadira Caraveo, who won her first term in 2022 by a narrow margin.
