Elon Musk, who is the world’s second richest person with a net worth of $207 billion, is a vocal advocate for increasing the global birth rate.
Elon Musk has welcomed his third child with Shivon Zilis, an executive at Neuralink, his brain implant company. According to Bloomberg News, the baby was born earlier this year.
Neuralink did not immediately respond to requests for comments. However, in an interview with the New York Post, Musk confirmed the birth of his third child with Zilis but did not reveal the child’s name or gender. Musk clarified that the birth was not kept secret, stating, “All our friends and family know. Failure to issue a press release, which would be bizarre, does not mean ‘secret.’”

Musk and Zilis already have twins born in 2021, shortly before Musk’s second child with musician Grimes, a daughter named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk. Musk, who is the world’s second richest person with a net worth of $207 billion, is a vocal advocate for increasing the global birth rate. He has expressed concerns about declining birth rates, describing it as the “biggest danger civilization faces by far” and has mentioned his efforts to combat the underpopulation crisis.
“The trend is that almost all countries are well below the replacement rate,” Musk told the Post. “This is simply a fact, not a ‘debunked theory.'”
The global population has risen from about 1 billion in 1900 to roughly 8 billion today, with projections suggesting it will reach 9 billion by 2045. Nevertheless, birth rates in developed countries like South Korea and the U.S. have fallen below the replacement level of 2.1 children per woman in recent decades.
The OECD has warned that declining birth rates pose significant economic and social challenges, such as increasing financial pressure on government services and pensions. Various factors contribute to this decline, including the high cost of housing and the challenge of balancing careers with family life.
