Oman may trail Australia by 17 spots in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings, but they showed no signs of intimidation against the Mitchell Marsh-led team during their T20 World Cup Group B match in Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday. Despite facing the five-time ODI and one-time T20I World Champions, Oman applied significant pressure, reducing Australia to 62/3 by the 12th over. Australia’s innings only gained momentum in the final overs thanks to Marcus Stoinis’ explosive batting.

David Warner was another key player in Australia’s innings. Initially struggling to find the boundary, Warner kept his wicket intact, allowing Stoinis to play freely at the other end. Warner’s persistence paid off as he scored 56 runs off 51 balls, surpassing Aaron Finch to become Australia’s highest run-scorer in T20Is.

Finch, commentating during the match, acknowledged Warner’s achievement with a wave, which Warner returned with a smile. Warner now boasts 3155 runs in 104 T20Is, surpassing Finch’s 3120 runs in 103 matches.

Warner’s day was not without drama. After being dismissed by Kaleemullah while attempting a big hit, the Oman pacer celebrated with a roar and a mock kick aimed in Warner’s direction. Adding to the spectacle, David Warner mistakenly headed towards the Oman dressing room before realizing his error and correcting his path.

Stoinis’ crucial 67 not out off 36 balls propelled Australia to 164-5. He then showcased his all-rounder skills by taking three wickets for 19 runs, helping to restrict Oman to 125-9 in their chase.

Reflecting on the match, Stoinis, named player of the match, said, “It was a nice start. Maybe a few cobwebs for us but we’re better for it, and nice that we got the win. And nice that I got to spend some time in the middle and have a bit of a bowl.”
