Angelina Jolie had a memorable evening at the 2024 Tony Awards, marked by her first Tony win for producing “The Outsiders.” She attended the event with her daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt and showcased a new bird tattoo on her chest, visible beneath her teal Atelier Versace dress and shawl.

Throughout the evening, Jolie’s tattoo was a noticeable feature as “The Outsiders” garnered several awards. This victory brings Jolie closer to the prestigious EGOT status—achieved by winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony—an honor currently held by only 15 individuals.

While Jolie did not speak on stage when the ensemble accepted the Best Musical award, she shared her thoughts on the novel’s enduring relevance when introducing the cast’s performance of “Tulsa ’67/Grease Got a Hold.”

She noted that Susie Hinton’s novel, written during Hinton’s high school years, continues to resonate deeply, highlighting the universal experience of feeling like an outsider. Jolie offered words of encouragement to those who feel marginalized, urging them to value their voices.

Jolie also expressed her gratitude to her 15-year-old daughter Vivienne for encouraging her involvement in the 12-time Tony-nominated Broadway musical. In an interview with Deadline on June 10, Jolie mentioned that Vivienne’s deep appreciation for theater and her repeated viewings of “The Outsiders” at La Jolla prompted Jolie’s interest. Having read the book and seen the film adaptation years ago, Jolie was moved by how profoundly the story affected her daughter.

Sharing her insight into this experience, Angelina Jolie noted that it gave her a better understanding of Vivienne and the powerful impact of the material. She praised the collaborative effort of everyone involved over the past year in shaping the production, with Vivienne closely following the journey.
