Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik has revealed her diagnosis of a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss. In an Instagram post, she explained that this condition has been the reason for her recent absence. Yagnik described the diagnosis as a “sudden major setback” that took her by surprise and that she is still trying to cope with.
On June 17, Alka shared a photo of herself, appealing for support and understanding from her followers. She also asked for their prayers as she works to adjust to this new reality.

In her post, she wrote, “To all my fans, friends, followers, and well-wishers. A few weeks ago, after disembarking from a flight, I suddenly found myself unable to hear anything. Summoning courage over the following weeks, I now want to address my absence to all who have been concerned about me.”
She continued, “My doctors have diagnosed me with a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss, caused by a viral attack. This unexpected and significant setback has caught me off guard. As I strive to come to grips with this, please keep me in your prayers.”
Alka also advised her fans and younger colleagues to be cautious about exposure to loud music and headphones. “To my fans and young colleagues, I advise caution regarding exposure to very loud music and headphones. Someday, I hope to share the health risks associated with my profession. With your love and support, I aim to recalibrate my life and return to you soon. Your support and understanding mean the world to me in this critical time,” she added.
