Joey Graziadei revealed the reason behind his yellow eyes, addressing concerns from fans. The Season 28 star of “The Bachelor” disclosed his diagnosis of Gilbert syndrome.
Joey Graziadei, star of “The Bachelor” Season 28, took to Instagram to shed light on the mystery surrounding his distinctive yellow eyes. The cause, he revealed, is Gilbert syndrome—a benign genetic liver condition affecting the processing of bilirubin, resulting in occasional yellowing of the eyes and skin.
Graziadei, a 28-year-old tennis instructor from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, shared that his journey with Gilbert syndrome began in high school, where a week-long illness prompted blood work, doctor visits, and a liver ultrasound, leading to his diagnosis.
In the video, Graziadei reassured his fans that, despite the visible impact on his eye color, he is, in fact, healthy. However, he acknowledged the need to pay closer attention to his fluid intake, particularly during stressful periods, such as those experienced on a television show.
Explaining Gilbert syndrome further, Graziadei highlighted its prevalence, affecting 3% to 7% of Americans, with a higher occurrence in men than women. Notably, only a third of individuals with the condition exhibit any symptoms. The harmless nature of Gilbert syndrome means it doesn’t necessitate treatment.
Providing insight into his reality TV journey, Graziadei made his debut in “The Bachelorette” Season 20, where he finished as the runner-up. In August, he was announced as the lead for “The Bachelor” Season 28.
