It is believed that Jesus Christ was crucified by the Romans at Calvary because he was found guilty of claiming to be a ‘son of God’. Christ’s crucifixion is celebrated as Good Friday by the Christians all over the world. Just after two days of crucifixion, Jesus Christ resurrected from death and this day is celebrated as Easter.

Easter celebrations begin a week before with Palm Sunday which marks the entry of Jesus in Jerusalem. The week before Easter is considered Holy Week. After Palm Sunday, Spy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are celebrated. Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are called the Easter Triduum.
Easter Sunday preceded by Lent — a 40-day fasting and penance period (excluding sundays) which begins from Ash Wednesday. Many Churches start celebrating Easter late in the evening of Holy Saturday.

Eggs have great importance on this day. Eggs are decorated and children take part in egg hunting. Other rituals of Easter include Easter parades, communal dancing and the Easter Bunny. Some children’s basket is filled with chocolates, golden eggs and other gifts.
Christians visit Churches and offer prayers on this day. They exchange chocolates, eggs and gifts with each other.
