Dive into the magical world of Wicked with the electrifying Super Bowl 2024 trailer. Witness Ariana Grande’s enchanting transformation as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo’s mesmerizing portrayal of Elphaba.
Fans tuning in to the 2024 Super Bowl on Sunday (Feb. 11) were treated to a surprise during an early commercial break.
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Wicked unveiled its first trailer, showcasing Grande as Glinda the Good Witch and Erivo as Elphaba. The sneak peek captures the characters’ initial meeting, with Grande audibly gasping at Erivo’s green appearance.
The one-minute trailer also features snippets of Erivo belting out “Defying Gravity” and includes appearances from Jonathan Bailey, who plays Fiyero in Bridgerton; Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz; and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, the U.K.-filmed adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, based on Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel, took over a year to film. The star-studded cast also includes Ethan Slater and Bowen Yang.
The project will be released in two parts, with the first feature-length premiering on Thanksgiving, and the second scheduled for 2025.
In January, Ariana Grande expressed her deep connection with the cast and director on Instagram Stories, thanking Jon Chu for his compassion, openness, brilliance, and kindness throughout the filming process.
