Directed by Oscar nominee Lee Isaac Chung, known for his work on “Minari,” the film is touted as a “new chapter” rather than a mere reboot. Powell’s character exudes a daring charm, proclaiming, “You don’t face your fears. You ride ’em.” The trailer hints at a tumultuous journey, with farms destroyed, cars sliced apart, towns leveled, and people and livestock tossed through the air as tornadoes wreak havoc across Middle America.
Contrary to expectations, Powell emphasizes that “Twisters” is not a continuation of the original’s story. In an interview with Vogue, he clarifies that it’s a completely original narrative, set in the modern day, with no returning characters from the first installment.
The 1996 “Twister” achieved tremendous success, starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Carey Elwes, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, grossing nearly $500 million at the box office and earning Oscar nominations for visual effects and sound.
