The 30th annual SAG Awards took place on February 24 at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles, with Lily Gladstone etching her name in history with the significant win.
Lily Gladstone achieved a groundbreaking victory as she secured the Best Female Actor in a Leading Role at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards for her portrayal of Mollie Burkhart in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” directed by Martin Scorsese. This triumph marked her as the first Indigenous actor to clinch this prestigious award.

Mollie Burkhart’s character, an Osage woman entangled in the 1920s systematic assassination of the Osage people, showcased Gladstone’s exceptional talent.
During the awards ceremony, presented by Jessica Chastain, Gladstone expressed her pride in fellow actors and their solidarity following Hollywood strikes, emphasizing the challenges of the past year. She recognized the privilege of working as an actor, describing it as a gift and highlighting the power of storytelling to bring empathy and visibility to marginalized narratives.
Gladstone, who uses both she/they pronouns, encouraged everyone to continue telling stories, extending the message to those with voices and stories that need to be heard. The actress acknowledged the compassionate souls in the room and thanked storytellers for speaking their truths and advocating for each other.
This victory adds to Gladstone’s historic awards season, including her Golden Globe win for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama, making her the first Indigenous actor to achieve such recognition in the ceremony’s 81-year history. Additionally, she is the first Native American actor nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Actress category.

Throughout the season, Gladstone passionately advocated for Native representation in the entertainment industry, using various platforms to educate and support Indigenous voices.
