Shah Rukh Khan’s cinematic voyage this year has been a rollercoaster ride. His films “Jawan” and “Pathaan” soared past the Rs 1,000 crore mark globally, but his latest flick, “Dunki,” didn’t quite match that same frenzy upon its release.

Despite a strong opening day with Rs 30 crore domestically, “Dunki” sits at the seventh spot among the year’s biggest openings, trailing behind the successes of “Jawan,” “Animal,” “Pathaan,” “Tiger 3,” “Gadar 2,” and even the underwhelming “Adipurush.”
While “Dunki” might not scale the heights of Shah Rukh Khan’s other films this year, it still outperforms the opening day earnings of several other movies, including “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan,” “Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar,” “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” and “Dream Girl 2.”
On its debut day, “Dunki” saw an overall occupancy of about 29.94%, with moderate turnouts in the NCR and Mumbai regions. The real litmus test looms as “Dunki” braces for a clash with Prashanth Neel’s multilingual release, “Salaar,” headlined by Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, anticipated to rake in over Rs 60 crore on day one.
Despite not matching up to the year’s prior successes, Shah Rukh Khan’s “Dunki” manages to surpass the opening day figures of his 2018 film “Zero,” which struggled at the box office. Similarly, for director Rajkumar Hirani, known for his box office prowess, “Dunki’s” opening numbers fall short compared to his previous blockbuster “Sanju,” featuring Ranbir Kapoor.
