West Bengal Minister Jyotipriya Mallick found himself in custody as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) apprehended him in connection with an alleged corruption case related to ration distribution.
Speaking to ANI, Mallick stated, “I am the victim of a grave conspiracy” as he was being led away from his Salt Lake residence. This arrest occurred one day after the ED conducted a search of Mallick’s home in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The minister asserted his innocence amidst a swarm of media, with ED investigators and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) officers overseeing his apprehension.

In an official release, ANI reported that the ED had arrested West Bengal Minister Jyotipriya Mallick in connection with the alleged corruption case in ration distribution. The ED had been conducting investigations related to this case.
Jyotipriya Mallick, who presently holds the position of state minister for Forest Affairs and had previously overseen the Food and Civil Supplies department, is entangled in this legal situation.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the TMC, has not yet responded to her minister’s arrest.
This development follows a previous ED operation in 2023 that resulted in the arrest of former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and his partner Arpita Mukherjee. Their arrest was linked to the teachers’ recruitment scam and their involvement in the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scandal.

In another case, the TMC’s Burdwan district president, Anubrata Mondal, had been previously arrested in connection with a cattle smuggling case.
Abhishek Banerjee, the chief minister’s nephew and a prominent TMC leader, has also faced questioning by the ED multiple times in connection with an alleged coal ‘scam’ case.
