England, on the other hand, had a remarkable batting collapse, crumbling to 52-5 within 16 overs. They were eventually bowled out for 129 in under 35 overs, with Mohammed Shami claiming 4-22 for India. Liam Livingstone’s 27 was the top score for England.

Rohit Sharma commented on India’s win, highlighting the character displayed by his team, especially the experienced players who stepped up at the right moments.

England, already at the bottom of the group standings, faced an uphill battle to reach the semi-finals with just one win in their previous five group matches. In contrast, India, the only unbeaten team in the tournament, proved unstoppable in their home conditions.

Jos Buttler, the England captain, elected to field after winning the toss. England had reasons to be optimistic as India struggled early, with David Willey making an impact by dismissing Virat Kohli for a nine-ball duck. Rohit Sharma adjusted his approach and, with Rahul’s support, steadied the ship.

Although India reached the 100-run mark at the halfway stage, they had ample overs and batting firepower left to make up for their initial setbacks. Willey later removed Rahul, and Adil Rashid sent back Rohit. Suryakumar’s inventive batting helped India cross the 200-run mark.

England’s innings started briskly but quickly crumbled when Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Dawid Malan and Joe Root with consecutive deliveries in the fifth over. Ben Stokes failed to score, and Shami shattered his stumps, leaving England in a dire situation.

Jonny Bairstow was dropped by Kohli in the slip, but he soon departed, dragging a delivery from Shami onto his stumps. England’s batting woes continued, and Buttler’s dismissal was symbolic of their struggles.

Buttler expressed his disappointment, stating that despite their hopes while chasing 230 at the halfway stage, England faced familiar batting woes.
