Director and actor G Marimuthu tragically passed away at the age of 58 due to a severe heart attack. Reports indicate that he was in the midst of dubbing for a TV show when he suddenly collapsed at the studio on the morning of September 8th.
Tamil actor-director G Marimuthu, renowned for his role in the recent Rajinikanth blockbuster “Jailer,” has tragically passed away due to a heart attack at the age of 57. This sad news was confirmed by film trade analyst and industry insider Ramesh Bala on Friday, shared via the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
Marimuthu was also celebrated for his contributions to the Tamil television series “Ethirneechal” and his work as an assistant director with acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam and others.

Ramesh Bala tweeted, “SHOCKING : Popular Tamil Character Actor #Marimuthu passed away this morning due to cardiac arrest.. Recently, he developed a huge fan following for his TV Serial dialogues.. May his soul RIP!” In one more tweet he wrote, “He was 57..”
Rajinikanth mourned the death of his co-star
“Marimuth is a wonderful person. His death shocked me. My heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family,” Rajinikanth tweeted.
In a shocking turn of events on a Friday morning around 8:30 am, G Marimuthu, well-known for his work in over 50 movies, directing films, and acting in TV shows, reportedly collapsed while dubbing for the TV serial “Ethirneechal” in Chennai. The news of his collapse and subsequent demise was confirmed by Johnson, a public relations professional in the South film industry, through a tweet.

Who Was G Marimuthu?
G Marimuthu‘s journey in the film industry was nothing short of remarkable. He hailed from Pasumalaitheri in Theni and moved to Chennai in pursuit of his dream to become a film director in 1990. Initially, he worked as a waiter in hotels, but fate took a turn when he crossed paths with lyricist Vairamuthu. This chance encounter led to his role as an assistant director, where he collaborated on projects with renowned names like Rajkiran, working on films like “Aranmanai Kili” (1993) and “Ellame En Rasathan” (1995).
Marimuthu’s career as an assistant director continued to flourish as he worked alongside legendary filmmakers such as Mani Ratnam, Seeman, Vasanth, and SJ Surya. Notably, he also served as a co-director on Silambarasan’s “Manmadhan.”
