Jasprit Bumrah is set to be ruled out of the upcoming T20I World Cup in Australia due to his back stress fracture, BCCI sources told PTI. Either Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar will replace him in the main squad.
Jasprit Bumrah is set to be ruled out of the upcoming T20I World Cup in Australia due to his back stress fracture. BCCI sources told PTI that Bumrah has serious back injury and he is unable to play for a period of next six months.
“Bumrah is not going to play the T20 World Cup for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah didn’t play in Asia Cup as well. He played second and third T20 match against Australia but couldn’t join India in the first T20 match against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram.
Just after the toss, BCCI tweeted that Bumrah complained of back pain during practice session on tuesday.
“Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first #INDvSA T20I,” BCCI tweeted.
Bumrah is the second senior star Indian player who has been ruled out of T20I World Cup after Ravindra Jadeja, who is recovering from knee injury.
Pacers Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar are the standby players in the T20I World Cup squad of India. Probably, Deepak Chahar will replace Bumrah as he showed his great bowling skills in the first match against South Africa. He has also the batting capability.
Bumrah, who has a slinging action, puts a lot of pressure on his back during loading. Former West Indies pace bowling great Michael Holding had assessed that Bumrah was always a candidate for back injuries.
