Vat Purnima Vrat is one of the most auspicious occasions of Hindus. On this day, women in India observe fast for well-being and long life of their husbands’. This vrat is observed on Jyeshtha Purnima. This year, it will be celebrated on tuesday June 14, 2022.

Vat Purnima Vrat 2022:- Story

On this day, people worship mother Savitri. According to Hindu scriptures, Savitri got back her dead husband from Yamraj with her devotion.

Savitri married to Satyawan who had a short life. One day, Satyawan was working in the forest and Yamraj, the lord of death, came to take his life. When Savitri reached at the forest, she saw Yam was taking her husband away. She started following them as she didn’t want to lose her husband. Savitri was a pure and pious woman and a believer of God. Yamraj got impressed from her devotion and worship and he returned his dead husband back to her.

Vat Purnima Vrat has great significance in the Hindu community. Hindus especially women celebrate this festival with full of enthusiasm and fervour. On this day, women worship Banyan tree as it is considered to be auspicious and long-lived tree.

Women wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath. They wear new clothes and ornaments. Married women observe fast for the health and well-being of their husbands’. Unmarried girls also perform puja to get a good husband.

Women worship mother Savitri under the Banyan tree and light a diya. They offer sweets, fruits, vermillion and tie a sacred thread around the tree. Women break the fast at night by eating sweet food.
