The legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar dies on february 6 at the age of 92 in the Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. The national flag will fly at half-mast for two days, as a mark of respect for Lata Mangeshkar. Her funeral will be held at 6:30 pm in the evening with full state honours.

There will be two day mourning in the country to pay her tribute, the government said. She was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in january after she was diagnosed with Covid-19 and pneumonia. She was kept in the Intensive Care Unit.

Earlier, she had recovered and had been removed from the ventilator but continued to be in the observance of doctors. On saturday evening, her health condition deteriorated again.

The veteran singer was born on September 28, 1929 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She started her career at the early age of 13 after her father’s death as she had to look after her mother and four siblings.

Her first Hindi song was “Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu” for the Marathi movie Gajaabhaau. She moved to Mumbai in 1945.

She became one of the most iconic playback singers in the Bollywood very soon. She sang in more than thousand Hindi movies. She also recorded tracks in other Indian languages and foreign languages.

She was fondly known as the “Nightingale of India.” She was the recipient of Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. She was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke award and many other National awards.

Prime minister Narendra Modi mourned on the death of Lata Mangeshkar. He tweeted, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled.”

“The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people,” he further wrote.
