After a little break, captain Virat Kohli joined team India in the 2nd test. He won the toss and decided to bat first. India’s 3 players Ajinkya Rahane, who was the captain in the 1st test, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and pacer Ishant Sharma are not the part of India’s playing XI in the 2nd test due to injury.

There were the obstacles on the playing of Mayank Agarwal in the 2nd test but selectors have given him chance to play and he slammed an unbeaten century on the first day. Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill did opening in the match and they both made the partnership of 80 runs for 1st wicket.

Then, New Zealand’s spinner Ajaz Patel dismissed Gill (44 off 71 balls) and broke the partnership. Cheteshwar Pujara came at the 3rd number and Ajaz Patel dismissed off-form Pujara at duck. Ajaz Patel dismissed captain Virat Kohli too at duck by lbw, though this dismissal was debatable. Kohli showed displeasure after this decision.

India’s innings faltered by back to back wickets. Then, Shreyas Iyer came on the crease, who had hit century and half-century in the 1st test against New Zealand. He gave some support to Agarwal and handle the team’s score. Then, Ajaz Patel took the wicket of Iyer (18 off 41 balls) too.

After Iyer, wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha came on the crease. Agarwal and Saha both made the good partnership for the 5th wicket and remain unbeaten on the first day. Mayank Agarwal (120) and Wriddhiman Saha (25) will resume the play on second day. With the help of Mayank Agarwal (120), Shubman Gill (41), Shreyas Iyer (18) and Wriddhiman Saha (25), India reached at 221/4 on the first day of 2nd test.
