Shankha ghosh who was bengali poet passes away on wednesday morning battling covid-19 pandemic. He was reported covid-19 positive on april 14 (wednesday). He was 89 years old when he died. West bengal chief minister Mamata banerjee expressed her condolences on his death, ‘his death created a deep void in the society’, she said.
He had several comorbidities that’s why he turned more sick after testing for covid-19 positive. After reporting covid positive, he didn’t want to go to hospital. So, his family make him isolated at the home after the consultation with doctor. He was hospitalised a few months ago because of his ill health. PM Narendra modi expressed his condolences on the twitter account.

Apart from poet, he was also a critic and academician. He was considered having an authority for the nobel laureate Rabindranath tagore. He also used to participate in political and social matters. He was soft spoken but his pen was razor- sharp. He also told on nandigram violence.
He was famous for his books like Adim Lata – Gulmomay and Murkha Baro Samajik Nay and among other books. He also taught in many universities.
In the year 1977, he received Sahitya Akademi Award for his book ‘Babarer Prarthana’. In 2011, he was awarded Padma Bhushan and In 2016, he received Jnanpith award.
He is survived by his two daughters Semanti and Srabanti and wife Pratima. He was born on 6 february, 1932 at Chandpur present day in bangladesh.
