Team India’s dynamic opener, Shubman Gill, is making remarkable strides in his recovery from Dengue, demonstrating resilience in the face of adversity. Unfortunately, this tenacious batsman missed the inaugural ODI World Cup clash and is set to sit out the upcoming game against Afghanistan on October 11 in Delhi.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) affirmed, “Shubman Gill will not travel with the team on October 9, 2023, and will remain under medical supervision in Chennai.”

Initially, there were speculations that Gill might rejoin the squad in Delhi, but the final verdict hinges on his forthcoming medical assessment. The earlier information, shared by an ANI source, indicated optimism about Gill’s travel plans, stating, “Shubman Gill is recovering, and he will be traveling with the team to Delhi.” However, the decision to play against Afghanistan will be contingent upon his subsequent medical report.

Golden Ducks:- Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer create unwanted records against Australia in World Cup 2023

Gill’s absence in the opening match against Australia prompted the elevation of Ishan Kishan, who paired up with skipper Rohit Sharma. Despite Australia’s initial stronghold in the match, India’s bowling juggernaut, led by Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah, showcased an outstanding performance, limiting the Aussies to 199. Jadeja, in particular, was instrumental, claiming three crucial wickets.

The Indian batsmen faced an early setback in the second inning, losing Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer for ducks, leaving the team at 2/3. However, the indomitable partnership between Virat Kohli, who scored 85 runs from 116 balls, and KL Rahul, with an unbeaten 97 runs from 115 balls, orchestrated a resilient 165-run stand, leading India to a noteworthy six-wicket triumph.

Looking ahead, India’s cricketing prowess is poised for another challenge as they prepare to confront Afghanistan on October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The anticipation surrounding Shubman Gill‘s return adds an intriguing subplot to India’s campaign in the ODI World Cup, underscoring the unpredictable nature of the cricketing arena.
