After 15 years, she may be considered for parole, but her driver’s license will remain permanently suspended.

“I am so deeply sorry,” Shirilla stated briefly on Monday. “I would never allow this to happen intentionally. We were all close friends, and Dom was my soulmate. I wish I could take all of your pain away. I’m so sorry.”

Cuyahoga County prosecutors established that Shirilla deliberately orchestrated the crash on July 31, 2022. Evidence indicated that the 17-year-old at the time accelerated and sped down a dead-end street in a Strongsville business park, intentionally colliding with a brick wall, resulting in the deaths of Russo and Flanagan.

During her sentencing on Monday, prosecutors revealed that shortly after the high-speed crash, Shirilla inquired whether authorities could impose a 10-year license suspension. This perspective highlighted what they described as Shirilla’s “alarming lack of remorse” following the fatalities.

While Mackenzie Shirilla was hospitalized for several weeks after the collision, investigators learned that she and her mother were pursuing job opportunities with a modeling agency based in Los Angeles, according to prosecutors.

Subsequently, in the months following the crash but prior to her formal charges, Shirilla’s social media posts depicted her celebrating Halloween and attending a concert in Cleveland’s Flats district.
