South Africa beat India by 4 runs in the 3rd and last ODI at Newlands, Cape town. The excitement remained till the last over of the match when India needed 6 runs in 6 balls and 1 wicket was in hand. Captain Temba Bavuma gave ball to Dwaine Pretorius for the last over. He dismissed Yuzvendra Chahal on the second ball and South Africa won the match. With this win, hosts clean sweep the three-match ODI series 3-0.

Earlier, India’s Captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to bowl. India’s start was very good when Deepak Chahar sent Janneman Malan to pavilion and Kl Rahul run out the South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma but Quinton de Kock was on the crease to hit the century. He scored 124 and made a brilliant partnership of 144 runs with Rassie Van Der Dussen.

De Kock became player of the match and player of the series as he has also hit half-century in the 2nd ODI.

With the help of De Kock’s century and Rassie’s (52 off 59) half-century, South Africa made 287 runs in 49.5 overs. India’s Prasidh Krishna took 3 wicket haul. Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah picked 2-2 wickets while Yuzvendra Chahal took 1 wicket.

There was a tough target of 288 runs in front of India. India’s skipper got out very soon but Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli made a good partnership. Dhawan scored 61 off 73 balls and Kohli made 65 runs off 84 balls but they couldn’t take India’s innings forward and their half-centuries go in vain.

Andile Phehlukwayo dismissed Rishabh Pant on his first ball at duck. Shreyas Iyer (26) and Suryakumar Yadav (39) also couldn’t help India win. Deepak Chahar (54 runs off 34 balls) hit a half-century and showed some cameo with the bat. He brought India closer to win but in the 48th over Lungi Ngidi dismissed him. At that time, India needed 10 runs in 18 balls.

In the last over, there was a need of 6 runs but Yuzvendra Chahal gave easy catch to David Miller on the second ball of Dwaine Pretorius. With this wicket, India got all out at 283 runs in 49.2 overs. Lungi Ngidi and Andile Phehlukwayo took 3-3 wickets. Dwaine Pretorious picked 2 wickets while Keshav Maharaj and Sisanda Magala took 1-1 wicket.

South Africa’s overall performance was very good. The batters and bowlers performed well throughout this tournament. The hosts had earlier clinched the test series 2-1 and now whitewash the ODI series 3-0 against India.

India’s tour of South Africa didn’t remain good. It is really heartbreaking. India needs to think where to work upon as ODI World Cup 2023 is also on the way.
