Google celebrates the 75th anniversary of the publication of Anne Frank’s diary which describes the small events of Holocaust to Anne’s profound dreams and fears. Later, this was translated into upwards of 80 languages.
Anne Frank was born in Germany
Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, but her family soon moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands to escape the discrimination and violence faced by millions of minorities at the hands of the growing Nazi party.
The World War II ignited, when Anne Frank was 10 years old and Germany evaded the Netherlands. The war reached to her family’s doorsteps. Jews people were particularly targeted by the Nazi community. They experienced imprisonment, execution or forced relocation to inhumane concentration camps. Millions of Jews were forced to flee their homes or go into hiding.
Anne’s family lived in hiding for 25 months
In the spring of 1942, Anne Frank’s family did the same, hiding in a secret annex in her father’s office building to avoid persecution. War forced people to leave behind everything and seek protection. During this time, Anne Frank took with her a checkered hardback notebook, which was a gift recieved by her on thirteenth birthday. She filled this diary with small events of the war and her emotions and feelings during the 25 months hiding period.

On August 4, 1944 Anne’s family was found out by the Nazi Secret Service. They were arrested and taken to a detention center where they were forced to perform hard labor. Then, they were forcibly deported to Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland where they had to live in an inhumane and unhygienic conditions.
Anne Frank was transported to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp where Nazis used to beat and kill the prisoners. In these conditions, deadly disease spread there and Anne Frank succumbed to that disease. At that time, she was just 15 years old.
After the war, Anne’s father published her book “Het Achterhuis” (“The Secret Annex”). This book is widely considered one of the most important books in modern history.
“Frank’s memoir is a staple in today’s classrooms, utilized as a tool to educate generations of children about the Holocaust and the terrible dangers of discrimination and tyranny,” Google wrote in a blog.
“Thank you, Anne, for sharing a critical window into your experience and our collective past, but also unwavering hope for our future”, Google added.
