This year, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to begin on the eve of April 10 and end on the eve of April 11. However, the exact date may vary according to moon sighting. Eid-ul-Fitr signifies the end of dawn to dusk fasting period during Ramadan. It is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal month.

It is believed that Prophet Muhammad got the first revelation of holy Quran during Ramadan. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of this holy month Ramadan. This day had been originated by the Prophet Muhammad. It was first celebrated in Medina after the migration of Muhammad from Mecca.

On Eid-ul-Fitr, people wake up early in the morning, take bath, wear ittar (perfume) and chant their Salat ul-Fajr (daily prayers). People prepare sweet delicacies such as seviyan, kheer and phirni on this day so it is also known as mithi Eid.
People do charity, help poors by giving them clothes and offering food to them. Women apply henna on their hands and wear new clothes. Children take Eidi (money) from their family elders.
