Daniil Medvedev wins US Open title, Novak Djokovic’s dream to win calendar slam breaks

 25 years old Russia’s Daniil Medvedev broke the dream of Novak Djokovic to win calender year Grand Slam and wins his maiden Grand Slam title by beating Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the US Open final.

World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev wins his maiden Grand slam title. He beats World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the US Open final 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the straight sets. With this lost, Djokovic lost his dream to win calendar year Grand Slam.

US Open is the first Grand Slam title of Russia’s Daniil Medvedev. He had lost from Djokovic in the Australian Open final in february, 2021 but In the US Open final he played very well against Djokovic and won the title.

Medvedev became the third Russian man to win Grand Slam title after Yevgeny Kafelnikov (1996 French Open and 1999 Australian Open) and Marat Safin (2000 US Open and 2005 Australian Open).

If Novak Djokovic would win the US Open, he could leave behind the Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer by winning the 21 Grand Slams but Medvedev came between his this historic title. As earlier, there are equal 20 Grand Slam titles of the Big three. Spanish Rafael Nadal and Swiss Roger Federer were absent in the tournament due to injury.

Novak Djokovic had won the three majors in 2021- Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon and was one win away from US Open but he faced loss in US Open final. With the Djokovic’s loss, last one year Calendar Grand Slam remained to the name of Rod Laver who had made this record in the year 1969. Rod Laver had come to see the final match of US Open.

Djokovic became the third player to loss at the final match in attempting to complete the Slam after Australians Jack Crawford in 1933 and Lew Hoad in 1956.

Djokovic is seen frustrated in the final match and he threw his racket down in frustration.

In the US Open final, most of the crowd was cheering Djokovic and after the match tearful Djokovic paid tribute to the crowd.
