Hindi Diwas 2023:- Every year Hindi Diwas or National Hindi Day is celebrated on September 14 in India. This day highlights the importance of Hindi language and promotes the language at a global level.

Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world after Mandarin and English. Mahatma Gandhi had also supported Hindi and said to make Hindi as India’s official language.

Hindi Diwas 2023:- Birth Anniversary of Beohar Rajendra Simha

Hindi Diwas also marks the birth anniversary of Beohar Rajendra Simha, a linguist, historian and theologian who immensely contributed to the development of the Hindi language as an official language of the country.

Hindi Diwas 2023:- History

The Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi as one of the official languages of India on September 14, 1949 due to the efforts of Beohar Rajendra Simha, Maithili Sharan Gupt, Rajendra Prasad Dwivedi, Kaka Kalelkar and Seth Govind Das. As on September 14, 1949 there was the birthday of Beohar Rajendra Simha and on that day Hindi was adopted as the official language.

Hindi is the official language under Article 343 of the Indian Constitution. Officially the Hindi Diwas was first celebrated on September 14, 1953.

Hindi Diwas 2023:- Importance

Hindi Diwas or National Hindi Day is celebrated to promote hindi language across the world. Its main motive is to overcome the use of English which has been growing day by day and make the youth aware about the importance of Hindi. As mentioned earlier, Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world.

Many colleges and universities outside India like London University, Cambridge University and Yark University also teach Hindi. Tech Giant Google also launched Hindi language on its platform and the usage of Hindi has been increasing a lot on Google.

How is Hindi Diwas celebrated?

Many schools, colleges and universities organise competitions in Hindi on this day to promote the language. Competitions like hindi speaking, poems, essay writing, creative and beautiful writing in hindi and many other competitions.

Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar and Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar awards are given to ministries, departments, public sector units (PSU), nationalised banks and institutions on Hindi Diwas for promoting Hindi.
