Teachers’ Day is celebrated on October 5 worldwide but in India, it is celebrated on September 5 every year. This day commemorates the birth anniversary of India’s second President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was also an educationist, scholar and philosopher.

Teachers’ Day 2024:- History
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President and the second President of Independent India. He was also the recipient of Bharat Ratna award. In 1962, Dr. S Radhakrishnan became the President of India. Some of his friends and students approached him and requested him to let them celebrate his birth anniversary which falls on September 5. He said that it would be his honour if September 5 would rather be celebrated as Teachers’ Day. It shows his love and respect towards the teachers.

Teachers’ Day 2024:- Celebrations
On Teachers’ Day, various programmes or events are organised in schools, colleges and other educational institutions. These programmes include dance competition, singing competition, poetry recitation, games and mimcry of teachers.
Students give roses, special gifts and handmade cards to teachers. They express their love and gratitude towards the teachers. Senior students handle/supervise all the classes on this day so that teachers do rest and enjoy the day.
Those who are no longer a school or college student can also celebrate this day with their former teachers by spending a quality time with them. Teachers’ day is a best day to show how much you love your teachers.
