Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the first cricketer in men’s T20I history to score 12 runs off the first legal ball of the game.
Yashasvi Jaiswal made history by scoring 12 runs on the first ball of the Indian innings during the fifth T20I match against Zimbabwe on Sunday. Sikandar Raza’s opening delivery was a high full-toss, which Jaiswal comfortably dispatched over deep square-leg for a six. The umpire called a no-ball, giving India a free-hit. Jaiswal then hit the following length delivery straight down the ground for another six.
This sequence resulted in India scoring 13 runs off just one legal delivery, making Jaiswal the first cricketer in men’s T20I history to score 12 runs off the first legal ball of the game.

India, invited to bat first, posted a challenging 167 for 6 despite facing aggressive pace bowling from Zimbabwe. Sanju Samson top-scored with 58 off 45 balls, sharing a crucial 65-run partnership with the young Riyan Parag (22 runs), which helped India recover after being reduced to 40/3 in the fifth over.
Zimbabwe’s pacers Blessing Muzarabani (2/19) and Richard Ngarava (1/29) were the standout bowlers for their team.
India faced early setbacks, losing opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (12), Abhishek Sharma (14), and captain Shubman Gill (13) quickly, finding themselves in trouble at 40/3 during the powerplay. However, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag steadied the innings.
India made two changes to their lineup, bringing in Mukesh Kumar and Riyan Parag in place of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Khaleel Ahmed. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, included Brandon Mavuta, resting Tendai Chatara after his participation in the previous four games.
