Shifty Shellshock, lead singer of Crazy Town, has passed away at 49. He is survived by his children Halo, Gage, and Phoenix.
Shifty Shellshock, the lead singer of the rap rock band Crazy Town, passed away at the age of 49, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. He died at home on Monday, June 24, with the cause of death still under investigation.

Born Seth Binzer on August 23, 1974, he formed Crazy Town with Bret Mazer in 1992. The band later included members like DJ AM (Adam Goldstein, who died in 2009 from an overdose), Rust Epique, Antonio Lorenzo Valli, and James Bradley Jr., among others. Their debut album, The Gift of Game, was released in November 1999 and reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200 by March 2001, staying on the chart for 34 weeks.
Initially, the album’s singles “Toxic” and “Darkside” did not chart, but “Butterfly,” released in October 2000, became a hit. Sampling the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Pretty Little Ditty,” it soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for two weeks. The song’s memorable chorus includes the lines: “Come my lady, come come my lady / You’re my butterfly, sugar baby / Come my lady, you’re my pretty baby / I’ll make your legs shake, you make me go crazy.”
“Butterfly” remained on the chart for 23 weeks and is Crazy Town’s most successful track, making Billboard’s One-Hit Wonders of the 2000s list in 2014.
Crazy Town’s second album, Darkhorse, was released in November 2002 but only reached No. 120 on the Billboard 200 before dropping off after a week. The band disbanded shortly thereafter.

Binzer was candid about his battles with substance abuse, appearing on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew in 2008 and Sober House from 2009 to 2010.
