Google doodle celebrates the beginning of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 on friday. The tournament has begun at Bay Oval Stadium in New Zealand. The hosts face the West Indies in the opening match of the tournament.
“Best of luck to all the competing teams!,” Google wrote.
When we click on the doodle, it shows us the result of ‘Women’s Cricket World Cup’ and the balls move from left to right on the screen. The moving balls can be seen again by clicking on the confetti popper at the bottom of the page.
Google doodle depicts six women playing in the stadium in front of an audience. They can be seen doing batting, bowling, wicket-keeping and fielding. The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup was earlier scheduled to be held in 2021 but was postponed till March this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions.
This year, total 8 teams from around the world are participating in this tournament. The tournament has officially begun on March 4 at 6:30 am IST and will last till April 3.
The world’s first international cricket match was played in 1844 between Canada and the United States. In 1973, the first Women’s Cricket World Cup tournament was held which was also won by this year’s defending champion, England.
