The much-anticipated ‘Godzilla Minus One’ is now available for streaming on Netflix and VOD after a six-month theatrical run.
Nearly six months after its theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada, Toho’s Oscar-winning “Godzilla Minus One” is now available for home viewing.
As of Saturday, June 1, the Takashi Yamazaki film is streaming for free on Netflix for subscribers. Additionally, it can be rented on VOD for $5.99 for 48 hours or purchased for $14.99 on platforms such as iTunes, Fandango, and Amazon Prime, where it has already reached the top spot.

Releasing a film on VOD on a Saturday is highly unusual, as is Netflix’s involvement. This suggests that the contractual agreement between Toho and Legendary Pictures (producers of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”) specified June 1 as the earliest possible home release date for the Japanese title.
A six-month window between theatrical release and home availability is rare nowadays. For instance, Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” had a four-month delay before hitting PVOD, with streaming following after seven months.
The delay likely caused pent-up demand for “Godzilla Minus One” and may have cost Toho financially. However, Toho also stands to benefit from its partnership with Legendary on “Godzilla x Kong.”
Netflix announced the film’s availability via a tweet at 9 PM PT on Saturday but did not otherwise publicize the date or the deal, which is unusual for such acquisitions that typically receive significant media coverage.

The $5.99 rental price, lower than the usual initial $19.99, might impact Toho’s earnings, but it makes sense given that Netflix subscribers can watch it for free. At this price, the film is expected to be very popular regardless of the alternatives.
“Godzilla Minus One” is now available just over two weeks after “Godzilla x Kong” hit PVOD. There is no announcement yet regarding when “Godzilla x Kong” will be available for streaming on Max.
