India beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the 3rd T20I match on sunday at Dharamshala. Sri Lanka made 146/5 in 20 overs with the help of Captain Shanaka’s brilliant half-century. India achieved the target 148/4 in just 16.5 overs with the help of Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten fifty.
India beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the 3rd T20I match on sunday at Dharamshala. With this win, India whitewash the three-match T20I series 3-0 against Sri Lanka. Shreyas Iyer became the hero of the match and the series as he hit fifties in all the three matches and the more interesting thing is that he remained unbeaten in the whole series.
Earlier, Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bat first. Sri Lanka’s start was not very good as it lost 4 wickets very soon. Opener Danushka Gunathilaka bowled by the pacer Mohammed Siraj in the very first over at duck. Avesh Khan took his first international wicket of Pathum Nissanka (1 off 10 balls). Charith Asalanka (4 off 6) was also trapped by Avesh Khan, wicket keeper Sanju Samson took his brilliant catch.
Spinner Ravi Bishnoi clean bowled the Janith Liyanage (9 off 19 deliveries) in the 9th over. Sri Lanka lost one another one wicket. Dinesh Chandimal (22 off 27 balls) became the victim of Harshal Patel, Venkatesh Iyer took his tough catch.
There was a scarcity of boundaries in the Sri Lanka’s innings and it was 60/5 in 12.1 overs. Then, captain Dasun Shanaka took all the responsibility of his team and played a very good innings. He knocked unbeaten 74 off 38 balls with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes. There were just 12 fours in the innings and 9 fours came only from the bat of Shanaka. 2 sixes were also from his bat only.
Captain Dasun Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne made 83 runs partnership for the sixth wicket. Earlier it seemed that Sri Lanka couldn’t even cross the 100 run mark but Captain played great shots in the last overs and took Sri Lanka to 143/5 in 20 overs.
India’s bowlers bowled very well but in the last couple of overs, they proved a little bit expensive. Avesh Khan bowled very good in his first three overs but proved expensive in his fourth over. He picked 2 wickets whereas Harshal Patel, Ravi Bishnoi and Mohammed Siraj took 1 wicket each.
In front of Indian in-form batters, 144 off 20 overs was a small target. In this match, skipper Rohit Sharma came with Sanju Samson to open. Captain couldn’t play a good innings. He (18 off 12 balls) gave an easy catch to Chamika Karunaratne off Dushmantha Chameera.
Sanju Samson played some impressive shots but he got edge on the full length ball off Chamika Karunaratne and wicket-keeper Dinesh Chandimal caught it.
Deepak Hooda (21 off 16 balls) also got opportunity to bat in this match and he played some good shots. He became the victim of Lahiru Kumara’s yorker which hit the wickets.Venkatesh Iyer (5 off 4 deliveries) was also trapped by Lahiru Kumara.
Shreyas Iyer continued his brilliant performance in this match as well. He completed his half-century by hitting a six. This was his third consecutive fifty in this series. Another interesting thing is that he remained unbeaten in the series. In this match, he knocked unbeaten 73 off 45 balls with 9 fours and a six.
Ravindra Jadeja made 22 off 15 balls and remained unbeaten. India (148/4) achieved the target in 16.5 overs (19 balls left). This is India’s third consecutive whitewash under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
From Sri Lanka’s side, Lahiru Kumara picked 2 wickets whereas Dushmantha Chameera and Chamika Karunaratne took 1-1 wicket.
