IPL Auction 2021 for the two new franchises has been done by the BCCI on October 25. Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be the new teams of IPL. It ends the wait of people of Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. In 2022, total ten teams will play the 15th season of IPL.
The Governing council of IPL had invited the tender (ITT) for the two new franchises. Many interested parties submitted their bids for the new franchises. RPSG Ventures Ltd. made the highest bid for Lucknow of Rs. 7090 crores. Irelia Company Pte Ltd. (CVC Capital Partners) made the highest bid for Ahmedabad of Rs. 5625 crores.
There were many other bidders in the line like Manchester United, Adani Group and Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone. BCCI had extended the date for purchasing the ITT document as many bidders had shown interest.
As soon as bidders complete the post-bid formalities as specified in the ITT document, Lucknow and Ahmedabad will become the part of IPL. In 2022, total 74 matches will be played in the IPL, wherein each team will play 7 home and 7 away matches.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, Honorary secretary Jay Shah, chairman of IPL Brijesh Patel and Honorary treasure of BCCI Arun Singh Dhumal congratulate the RPSG Ventures Ltd. and Irelia Company Pte Ltd.
They also said that as many bidders took interest for the new franchises, it shows the importance and popularity of IPL. Now, IPL will be bigger and more interesting.
True to IPL’s motto of ‘Where Talent Meets Opportunity’, the inclusion of two new teams will bring more domestic cricketers from our country to the global stage”, Sourav Ganguly said.
“The fact that winning bids were way above the base price set for the two new IPL franchises is a direct indication of the true value of the Indian Premier League”, Treasure of BCCI Arun Singh Dhumal said.
IPL had started in the year 2008 and it had total eights teams so far. Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals. From session 2022, two new teams Lucknow and Hyderabad will also join the IPL.
