Movie Summary
Set in 14th-century Florence during the Black Plague, Virgin Territory (2007) is a romantic comedy loosely based on Giovanni Boccaccio’s literary classic, The Decameron. The story follows a group of young Florentines who flee the city to a secluded estate to escape the pestilence. While there, they engage in a series of scandalous and comedic escapades.

The main plot focuses on the charming rogue, Lorenzo, and the beautiful, wealthy heiress, Pampinea. Pampinea is betrothed to a foreign Count she has never met and is being pursued by a villainous local scoundrel, Gerbino, who is after her fortune. To escape Gerbino, Pampinea hides in a convent. Unbeknownst to her, Lorenzo, who is also on the run from Gerbino, has taken on the identity of a deaf-mute gardener at the same convent.
