Virginia Halas McCaskey, the principal owner of the Chicago Bears and daughter of the team’s founder, George Halas, passed away on February 6, 2025, at the age of 102.

Born on January 5, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, McCaskey was deeply involved with the Bears from a young age. She assumed ownership of the team in 1983 following her father’s death. Under her leadership, the Bears secured a Super Bowl victory in 1986 and made another appearance in 2007.
Throughout her tenure, McCaskey was known for her commitment to the team’s players, coaches, staff, and fans. She maintained a low public profile but was instrumental in key organizational decisions. Her legacy includes the establishment of Bears Care, a charitable initiative aimed at improving the quality of life in the Chicago area.
