On February 14, 2025, at approximately 11:44 p.m., a 3.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Malibu, California. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported the epicenter to be about 6.8 miles northwest of Malibu, at a depth of approximately 11.3 kilometers.

Residents in the surrounding areas, including parts of Los Angeles County, felt the tremor. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or significant structural damage.

This seismic event is part of a series of earthquakes that have affected the Malibu region over the past year. Notably, on September 12, 2024, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake occurred approximately 6 kilometers north of Malibu at 7:28 a.m.

This quake was followed by several aftershocks ranging between 2.7 and 3.4 in magnitude. Residents reported feeling heavy shaking for 20 to 30 seconds, with the tremors being felt as far as downtown Los Angeles. Despite the intensity, no significant damage or injuries were reported.

In response to these events, the Los Angeles Fire Department has consistently activated its earthquake protocols, conducting thorough assessments to ensure public safety. These incidents serve as a reminder of the seismic activity characteristic of Southern California.
