Lynch had been diagnosed with emphysema, a condition he attributed to years of smoking, which had significantly impacted his health and mobility. In August 2024, he revealed that he had become housebound due to health risks associated with the disease.
In January 2025, Lynch was evacuated from his home due to the Southern California wildfires, an event that reportedly preceded a terminal decline in his health.
