Born in Waco, Texas, in 1957, Richards was the eldest daughter of former Texas Governor Ann Richards. She dedicated her life to activism, focusing on labor organizing and women’s rights.

In 2006, she became the president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, leading the organization for 12 years. During her tenure, she transformed Planned Parenthood into a significant political force, advocating for reproductive and sexual health care across the United States.

After stepping down from Planned Parenthood in 2018, Richards co-founded Supermajority in 2019, a political action group aimed at empowering women and promoting issues such as voting rights, equal pay, and paid family leave.
