Residents of Chennai have been urged to stay indoors as continuous rainfall is expected for the next two to three days.
Cyclone Fengal is currently impacting Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu, bringing heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the cyclone will cross the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coastline between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 70-80 km/h, with gusts up to 90 km/h. Authorities have issued safety directives, including suspending flight operations at Chennai Airport temporarily and advising fishermen to avoid venturing into the Bay of Bengal.
Many parts of Chennai, such as Old Mahabalipuram Road, are experiencing waterlogging, disrupting traffic and daily life. Schools and colleges in nine districts, including Chennai, have been closed as a precautionary measure.
Relief camps have been set up, and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin assured that the state government is actively monitoring the situation and implementing disaster management efforts.

Coastal areas of Puducherry are also under alert, with beaches closed and high waves reported.
