In a recent interview, Kangana Ranaut explained the decision behind the sale of Bungalow, revealing it was a financial move linked to her upcoming film, Emergency.
Kangana Ranaut recently made headlines after selling her Pali Hill bungalow in Bandra, Mumbai, for ₹32 crore. This property, used as the office for her production company Manikarnika Films, was partly demolished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in 2020, citing alleged structural violations. Kangana had originally purchased the bungalow for ₹20 crore in 2017, establishing her production house there two years later.

In a recent interview, Kangana explained the decision behind the sale, revealing it was a financial move linked to her upcoming film, Emergency. “My film was supposed to release, and I had invested all my personal assets in it. Since the release has been delayed, I had to sell the property to address the financial situation. That’s what properties are for – times of crisis,” she said.
In 2020, parts of the bungalow were demolished by BMC due to supposed violations, which led Kangana to express her belief that she was entitled to compensation. However, she refrained from pursuing the matter further, considering it would come from public funds. She has since bought a new office space in Andheri, Mumbai, for ₹1.56 crore.
About Emergency Film
Regarding her film Emergency, co-produced by Manikarnika Films and Zee Studios, Kangana announced its postponement after delays in receiving certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The film, which portrays the life of Indira Gandhi during the Emergency period of 1975-1977, has faced various controversies, including backlash from some Sikh groups. Although the Bombay High Court has now directed the CBFC to make a decision, and the film has been certified with a few cuts, a new release date is yet to be announced.
