Aparna Vastarey, the esteemed Kannada actress and the voice behind Bengaluru’s Namma Metro announcements, passed away on Thursday at the age of 57. She had been battling lung cancer and succumbed to the illness.

Aparna’s career spanned across various mediums including television and radio. She was a well-known actress in Kannada TV shows and also served as a radio jockey for All India Radio. However, she became a household name for her iconic announcements in Namma Metro, where her crisp and clear voice guided countless commuters. Her famous line, “Dayavittu Gamanisi, Mundina Nildana..,” is fondly remembered by many in Bengaluru.

Apart from her work with the metro, Aparna was also known for her impeccable hosting skills at numerous government events, where she presented in flawless Kannada.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah condoled the demise of Aparna Vastarey

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his condolences on social media. He wrote, “Saddened to hear the news of the death of actress and famous presenter Aparna. It is sad that a multifaceted talent who was a household name in the country by presenting in the Kannada language very elegantly in the shows of major Kannada channels, including government functions, has left us very soon.”

He extended his heartfelt message to Aparna’s family, urging them to stay strong during this difficult time. “I pray that the departed soul of Aparna rest in peace and her family members find strength to bear their grief,” he added.
