Influencer Archana Makwana publicly apologized after images of her yoga session went viral, expressing her remorse over the incident.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has filed a police complaint against an Instagram influencer for performing yoga at Sri Darbar Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple in Amritsar, sparking significant outrage within the Sikh community.

Following this event, the SGPC took disciplinary measures against three ‘sewadars’ (employees) for neglecting their responsibilities. These employees permitted the woman to practice yoga in the Parikrama, the marble pathway where devotees pray, on June 21, International Day of Yoga.
SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami condemned the act, stressing that such actions show blatant disregard for the sanctity of this holy site, deeply hurting Sikh sentiments. He called on the ‘sangat’ (community) to maintain the respect of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, a site of profound importance for Sikhs that draws pilgrims of all faiths from around the globe.
An inquiry committee formed by the SGPC questioned the ‘sewadars’ about their dereliction of duty. The influencer, identified as Archana Makwana, publicly apologized after images of her yoga session went viral, expressing her remorse over the incident.
Golden Temple General Manager Bhagwant Singh Dhangera disclosed that Makwana had shared the photos on social media. CCTV footage confirmed she performed yoga at 7:04 a.m. after entering the premises at 6:57 a.m., spending nearly an hour in the Parikrama without engaging in prayer.
The SGPC, often termed the ‘Mini Parliament’ of the Sikh religion, remains committed to preserving the sanctity of its sacred sites.

Archana Makwana is a yoga practitioner who traveled to Delhi on June 21, International Yoga Day, to receive an award and subsequently performed asanas within the Golden Temple premises.
