According to witnesses, the boy’s 42-year-old father jumped into the water to save him but soon encountered difficulties keeping himself above water.
Police in Virginia reported that a teenage boy and his father drowned at Lake Anna on Saturday. The incident occurred after the boy struggled to stay afloat, prompting his father to attempt a rescue, which also led to his drowning.

The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office stated that emergency teams responded to the lake at around 1:10 p.m. on Saturday following reports of the 14-year-old boy drowning.
According to witnesses, the boy’s 42-year-old father jumped into the water to save him but soon encountered difficulties keeping himself above water.
“Witnesses reported seeing the father struggle before losing sight of him as well,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “Several people entered the water to try to find them but were unsuccessful.”
Divers from Spotsylvania County Fire & EMS, along with other officials, eventually located the submerged bodies of the father and son. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims were from out of state, and their identities are being withheld pending family notification.
