According to the court filing, Brad Pitt’s alleged history of abusing Jolie began before the September 2016 plane incident, which marked the first time he purportedly turned his abuse towards their children, prompting Jolie to leave him.
In a recent court filing, Angelina Jolie’s legal team asserts that Brad Pitt’s alleged physical abuse predates a reported altercation involving Pitt, Jolie, and their children on a plane in September 2016. The ongoing legal dispute revolves around their shared French winery, Château Miraval.

Pitt initiated a lawsuit against Jolie in 2022, claiming she violated contractual rights by selling her half of Château Miraval without his consent. Jolie’s lawyers countered, alleging that negotiations broke down when Pitt insisted she sign a restrictive nondisclosure agreement, preventing her from discussing his alleged abuse.
A new motion from Jolie’s legal team aims to unveil communications supporting their claim that Pitt refused to allow Jolie to sell her share unless she agreed to a more restrictive nondisclosure agreement.
According to the filing, Pitt’s alleged history of abusing Jolie began before the September 2016 plane incident, which marked the first time he purportedly turned his abuse towards their children, prompting Jolie to leave him.
Details of the September 2016 altercation emerged in Jolie’s countersuit filed last year, alleging that Pitt choked one child and struck another, while also physically assaulting Jolie during an argument on the plane.
Jolie’s legal team claimed Pitt attempted to harm one of their children when the child defended Jolie, leading to a chaotic scene where the children tried to protect each other while pleading with Pitt to stop.

Following the incident, Jolie arranged separate transportation for herself and the children, removing them from the situation. Pitt allegedly screamed at Jolie and pushed her down when she informed him they were leaving for a hotel.
In August 2022, it was revealed that Angelina Jolie was linked to an anonymous 2016 lawsuit where the plaintiff accused her “then-husband” (presumed to be Pitt) of assault on a private plane, with Jolie informing an FBI agent of the alleged physical and verbal assault on her and their children.
