International Women’s Day 2024:- History
International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900s. On February 28, 1909 the first Women’s Day was celebrated in the United States. It had been continued to celebrate on this date until 1913.
On March 19, 1911 International Women’s Day was observed for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. More than one million men and women attended rallies campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination.
Russian women’s celebrate their first Women’s Day on February 23, 1913, the last sunday of february. That was the eve of World War I and women were also campaigning for peace. Later, the day was agreed to be marked annually on March 8 according to the Gregorian calendar.
The United Nations started celebrating International Women’s Day in 1975. The first annual theme was announced by the UN in 1996, i.e., “Celebrating the past, Planning for the future.”

According to the United Nations, the theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is “Invest in Women: Accelerate progress.”
“Achieving gender equality and women’s well-being in all aspects of life is more crucial than ever if we want to create prosperous economies and a healthy planet. However, we are facing a key challenge: the alarming $360 billion annual deficit in gender-equality measures by 2030,” the United Nations official website wrote.
International Women’s Day 2024:- Significance
Not only women, men also celebrate this day with the women of their homes. On this day, people give gifts to their mother, wife, sister and girlfriend. Special surprise parties are organised for the women on this day.
International Women’s day is bringing change in the society. In the modern world, women are working in every kind of field and the gender inequality has also reduced at some extent.
