Harshit Rana, who successfully defended 13 runs during Kolkata Knight Riders’ inaugural IPL 2024 match, incurred a 60 per cent fine on his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct in their narrow four-run triumph against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Saturday (March 23).

According to a statement released, Rana was found to have violated Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct and was penalized 10 per cent and 50 per cent of his match fees for two separate infractions.
Although the statement did not delve into specifics, it is believed that Rana’s actions during his celebration after dismissing Mayank Agarwal could have triggered the code of conduct breach.

The IPL statement clarified that Harshit Rana had committed two Level 1 offences under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Rana acknowledged the infractions and accepted the sanctions imposed by the Match Referee. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision stands as final and binding.

Despite the controversy, Rana maintained composure and delivered a composed performance, defending 13 runs in the final over to secure KKR’s victorious start to the season.
