This marks Pitt’s third collaboration with Tarantino, following their work together on “Inglourious Basterds” (2009) and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (2019). Pitt also had a memorable role in “True Romance” (1993), a film written by Tarantino.
Set in 1977 California, “The Movie Critic” is inspired by a real but relatively unknown film critic. While it’s unclear if Pitt, 60, will portray the titular character, Tarantino previously hinted that the lead would be a fresh face around 35 years old.
Pitt’s performance in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” earned him an Oscar for best supporting actor. The film, nominated for 10 Academy Awards, was a box office success, grossing nearly $400 million worldwide.
Tarantino, 60, has long planned to retire after his tenth film to maintain the integrity of his body of work. With “The Movie Critic” serving as his swan song, Tarantino may explore television and book writing in the future. He has already ventured into literature with novelizations and film criticism books.
“The Movie Critic” awaits a confirmed release date and distributor, promising a compelling finale to Tarantino’s illustrious career behind the camera.
